01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
The moment the door opens, the fragrant aroma of roasting beans and freshly dripped coffee greets you. Located in Corpo Fuji in Kami-Itabashi, Coffee 13 is a kissaten with limited seating where a quiet ambiance is carefully maintained, each table equipped with its own reading lamp.
The savory centerpiece is the coffee shop's signature beef curry, paired with brown rice cooked in an earthenware pot. Rather than relying on assertive, punchy spices, it is prepared in a rich European style reminiscent of demi-glace, with mild heat that harmonizes naturally with the earthy flavor of the unpolished rice. Regulars can often be seen satisfying their appetite with a generous portion before settling in for coffee.
The beverage focus centers on house-roasted, dark-roasted beans that deliver an imposing aroma and thick, velvety body. A slice of rustic, wholesome homemade pound cake pairs wonderfully with this substantial bitterness and sweetness. For a different direction, the spiced Arabic coffee is another engaging choice, transforming into a chai-like richness when milk is added midway through, or offering a concentrated finish when sweetened with plenty of sugar.
Both eat-in dining and takeout are available, and payments are accepted in cash only. From early afternoon into the evening, it is the kind of quiet room that invites you to drop by on your own with a single book in hand.
